The following list of (in)frequently asked questions (FAQ) will be updated overtime and should help point players in the right direction if there is any confusion in the rules. Players are encouraged to email in any further questions they would like addressed to irregularwars@gmail.com.
Why isn't my favourite Renaissance army included in the battle lists?
The answer to this is probably:
a) That army was not active in any of the fields of operation focused on by the rules - Britain, Ireland, the New World, East Indies or the Eurasian steppe.
b) Details for that army were felt to be too scanty or inaccurate to allow for a working list (for now).
c) Zombie pirates did not actually exist.
d) A combination of any or all of the above.
Of course a collection of standard company types is provided at the end of the battle lists to allow keen players to customise their own lists. I am also prepared to discuss ideas and suggestions for extra lists to be posted on this blog with a view of including them in any future updates or expansions to the rules.
All of my miniatures are based for DBX/FOG, will I have to rebase them to play Conflict at the World's End?
No, the actual base size is not very important in game terms. There is no casualty counting and the number of figures required per base is flexible. The base is an abstract representation of a company of men. The rules state that the scale is worked out as 1 figure = 25 men but changing this relationship will not alter the game mechanics. There are only three rules that must be adhered to for basing figures for Conflict at the World's End:
1) For the game mechanics to operate smoothly, all bases should be square.
2) All figures on the board are based on the same sized bases, i.e. 30x30mm or 40x40mm etc. This means that if you are using DBX bases with a 40mm frontage and variable depth, these can be placed on a 40mm deep spacer, or combined into blocks, i.e. 2x 40x20mm bases placed one in front of the other.
3) All players need to be able to easily identify what the base of figures represents. So, if you only have five pikemen on your base or three targeteers, that is fine so long as you opponent knows that the base represents a company of pike or targeteers etc.
Do I need a separately based lord figure to attach to a company?
No, the lord is included in a company and may not leave it for the duration of the game.
Does the charge bonus apply in rough terrain/bad going?
That depends on the company type. The charge bonus never applies if the company has had its movement limited due to passing through a terrain feature. Therefore, conquistadors will not receive their charge bonus if they have passed through swampy ground. However, some company types, such as Mesoamerican suited warriors do not suffer and movement penalties. As such, they will always receive their charge bonus regardless of the terrain.
If I draw the cowardly/uninspiring/rash lord chance card, does it apply to me or can I play it against my opponent's lord?
The negative lord cards apply to the player who picks them. They have a continuous effect on the lord and his company throughout the game. The only way to rid yourself of a lord with these traits is to let him be killed by the enemy and allow his company to scatter.
