Wargears - the race is on!

Finishing Scraptember with a bang, here are a couple of shots from one of our recent playtests of Wargears, the wacky racing game set in the grim darkenss of the war-torn future. This time we played a simple, single lap, four vehicle race.

The photo above, taken during the first bound of the race, shows Tiny Dancer out in front. Tiny Dancer is a wargear with the walker, rapid fire guns and Texas Tea mods. Big Boy,  the green tank, has the heavy chassis, tracked and turret mods, while White-out, about to accelerate away from the start line, is hovering and has the Beep-beep turbo booster and Go Fasta stripes mods. Poor old Cheesus had already stalled and was struggling to restart his engine despite having the fusion reactor, Velocity Injected Nitro (V.I.N.) Deisel, and stasis bomb mods.

As Tiny Dancer and Big Boy exchanged shots, Cheesus finally got his act together, accellerated and carried out a hard turn to sneak through on the inside. Meanwhile, White-out was way out in front, about to take a jump.

Flying over the ramp with a boost of speed, White-out went hurtling into a set of barricades, coming to a short sharp stop. Big Boy, frustrated by Cheesus's skillful driving, took a short-range shot, causing the monocycle to spin out. Tiny Dancer came up the outside, following White-out over the jump in sixth gear and suffered the same fate, crashing face-first into a wall of tyres from which he struggled to extricate himself.

As Tiny Dancer backed up, he walked through a wall of ephemera (crates of live rad-coons!), scattering them as debris and creating a new patch of rough track. Cheesus dropped his stasis bomb but failed to get out of the blast zone which trapped both him and Big Boy in a time bubble.

As the stasis bomb lapsed, White-out drove on, leaving the other wargears in his dust, but was then shot at by Cheesus, swerving erratically as he took evasive action. Big Boy muscled his way into contention, while Tiny Dancer continued to be mired between the rough track, tire wall, and an inability to transition from first to second gear.

With Tiny Dancer so far behind, it was really now a three-vehicle race, as Cheesus, Big Boy and White-out all approached the finish line. Cheesus found the patch or rough track at the turn a little tricky, while Big Boy's tracks let him trundle on without a worry.

Completing his lap in first place, Big Boy was followed by Cheesus, still hugging the inside, while White-out hit a kinetic catapult and was flung over the finish line to take third place.
