Gaelcon 38

And there we have it - the first appearance of Irregular Wars Wargaming at a gaming convention. It was a big effort getting every ready for the weekend, but Gaelcon 38 in Dublin was a blast!

Saturday saw demos of Devilry Afoot and playtests of Wargears, while Sunday was given over to Ilium: A Game of Heroes and Fantastic Scuffles. Across the weekend I met a load of great people and had lots of good chats. The organising committee were really helpful despite being pulled in all directions, and I have to give a huge shout out to Andy T who drove down to Dublin to support me on Sunday and was the best wingman money can't buy.

We had a simple Devilry Afoot scenario set up where the hunters were repeatedly savaged by ghouls and a werewolf. It was perhaps already challenging enough before the revenant emerged from the grave...

Multiple Wargears races were played, with different winners each time - always a good sign of balance!

We didn't get too many games of Ilium played - but the table drew a good bit of attention and I had a few great geek-out sessions with other passionate fans of the Trojan War cycle as we gazed adoringly at the demo table and flicked through the rules.

The demos of Fantastic Scuffles all saw the same approach taken by the players... to hell with the scenario, lets just slaughter each other!

And a few lucky punters walked away with some of the sample Irregular Wars Goblin prints that I'd been sent by the lads at BS5 Beyond Games in Bristol. They have always been great to buy from, and they use the best resin I've every seen for printed minis, so I'm delighted that they will be printing and selling the physical copies of the wee chap.

So where to go from here? Can anyone recommend any other good cons (that I could logistically manage! 😆) or other places to run demos?
